Step-On is a unique family of dynamic AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthoses) for the treatment of drop foot, designed and manufactured by the European Orthopedic Centre in Greece.
Over the coming months, The European Orthopaedic Centre will share some of the excellent results they are achieving with interesting patient cases using their AFO’s and have highlighted Stavros’s story here.
Stavros is a 25-year old patient diagnosed with Charcot-Marie Tooth disease a few years ago, after just finishing school. The progression of the disease has meant that his legs were becoming increasingly weak, which as a result was affecting his overall mobility and safety, as well as his personal life. After being assessed he was fitted with two Step-On 200 Dual Hinge AFOs.
The unique Step-On AFOs are extremely lightweight ‘off the shelf’ products, offering adjustable dorsi-flexion assistance. They are made from a highly versatile polypropylene, which offers the possibility to easily heat and shape the brace to the patient (if beneficial).
The video below shows Stavros walking with and without the braces in a variety of situations. With the addition of the braces the difference it makes to his walking is noticeable, but perhaps more importantly it is exciting to hear him talk about the huge difference the braces have made to his life.
The Step-On AFO family of products cover all options, with the Single Hinge products available with either Lateral (100 LH) or Medial (100 MH) hinges, and for those patients that require a more stable solution there is the Dual Hinge (200 DH) solution.
