How to Measure
Inner Shoe Dimensions
To correctly size the footwear, Metric Sizes are used.
The correct footwear size can be determined in one of the following ways.
1. Use of a standard Metric Size foot measuring stick.
For example, if the foot measures 36 on the stick add 2 extra sizes to obtain the correct footwear size, therefore 36 + 2 = size 38.
However, if the foot is bandaged or has dressings in situ, or if you are measuring a child, you may consider adding an extra size. Locate the footwear size in the 1st column of the inner shoe dimensions table, then moving left to right, columns 'a' & 'b' allow the checking of the ball and heel widths
2. If you do not have a foot measuring stick
You can still obtain the correct size. Start by tracing the outline of the foot on a piece of paper (keeping your pen vertical). Mark the middle of the longest toe (normally the great toe) and the middle of the heel area and draw a line connecting the two – this will give you the foot length.
Measure the foot length in mm's and add 15mm to this figure. The use of the inner shoe dimensions table allows conversion of the mm's measurement to the equivalent Metric Size.
Say for example that the foot length measures 251mm + 15mm = 266mm. Looking at column 'c' in the relevant inner shoe dimensions table you can find 266mm, then moving left to the 1st column gives you the shoe size, in this example it is size 41. However, if the foot is bandaged or has dressings in situ, or if you are measuring a child, you may consider adding an extra size.
On the same piece of paper, mark the positions of the 1st and 5th metatarsal heads (MTH's) and draw a line connecting the two – this gives you the width of the ball area of the foot (column 'a' of the inner shoe dimensions table). Then draw a line across the middle of the heel to measure its width (column 'b').
