Brace Orthopaedic offers the Halluxsan brace that can be worn in preparation for surgery, to attain a better pre-operative condition; post-operatively, to help protect the surgical result; and also routinely as a conservative treatment for Hallux Valgus (bunions).
The Halluxsan is a resting splint that functions according to the CDS – Controlled Dynamic Stretch principle. The brace applies an adjustable low load prolonged stretch to stimulate growth in the soft tissue and reduce pain.

Until the unique Halluxsan brace was available, conservative treatments had little to offer. Conventional splints exhibited extreme rigidity and so they did not allow gradual correction of the shortened structures. This is why symptomatic treatment has consisted primarily of wide footwear, anti-inflammatory medicine and foot exercises with abduction of the big toe.
In addition to conservative treatment, the Halluxsan is used successfully as an adjunct to surgery. The brace is worn as a preparation for surgery to attain a better pre-operative condition, by stretching the soft tissues in advance and then post-operatively to help protect the surgical result. Post-operatively it should be worn at home for support during periods of rest in the first six weeks.
